We are thrilled to present version 1.0 of the video game ChemChallenge, which we designed for students studying chemistry and chemical engineering and teachers teaching these subjects.

Main features of this game:

  • A simulator of chemistry laboratory featuring 39 chemicals made of C, H, N, O, Na, Cl and Fe elements
  • Focus on studying thermodynamics and thermochemistry
  • 100 levels
  • Level score depends on how well players can use knowledge that they gained studying physical chemistry
  • The game score is in-game currency
  • Players may exchange the in-game currency for several virtual items
  • Players may use these virtual items to solve tasks in a more creative way and, as a result, gain even higher score
  • Upon completing levels, players learn key facts about chemical reactions that are used in industry, such as synthesis of ammonia from hydrogen and nitrogen, the Haber-Bosch process
  • Introduction to photochemistry
  • Tools, which may be used by teachers to evaluate students’ performance
